The Importance of Probiotics for Cats

The bacteria that reside in the small intestine and colon of the dog and cat play an important role in their overall health. These bacteria constitute a metabolically active system that acts as a significant barrier to infection by pathogenic microorganisms.

DNA-based microbiology that has identified and enumerated these microorganisms provides insight as to how the bacteria that live in the gut prevent disease affect nutrient absorption and impact the immune systems of our pets.

The gastrointestinal (GI) tract is the body’s number one barrier against disease. The bacteria that reside within the gut can be classified as either protective or potentially harmful. The balance of these bacteria is critically important to the overall health of all animals.

The GI tract of the dog and cat is essentially a long unsterile tube that runs from one end of the animal to the other. It is also the largest immune reactive surface in your pet’s body. How we feed our pets and the various stresses we place on them can alter the balance between the good gut microflora and those that can cause disease. It can also alter the defense mechanisms that occur in the lining of the GI tract.

Diet can potentially be the cause of inflammation, which can increase or decrease gut permeability, thereby altering nutrient absorption and overall health. When your dog or cat’s GI tract is healthy, it allows for the absorption of amino acids, vitamins, and minerals, while at the same time preventing the entry of disease-causing substances.

For Kittens

While kittens are growing, they often experience periods where their stools can become soft and runny – creating multiple problems for their owners. Any disturbance of the GI Tract can lead to an imbalance of gut bacteria and potential disease. Assure that your kitten gets a good head start in life by providing billions of helpful gut bacteria and a special blend of feline enzymes you can only get in Feline Digestive Support.

For Adult Cats

Proactively supporting your adult cat’s digestive system can help maintain gut integrity and keep the GI Tract in balance. The billions of pre and probiotics found in Feline Digestive Support can assist the gut in fighting off potential disease-causing organisms – allowing the cat to live healthier and delay the onset of those age related-diseases that come with senior life.

For Senior Cats

Senior cats often lose weight, muscle mass, strength, and the desire to do anything except sleep. This is because as a cat gets older, its ability to digest and utilize nutrients becomes more challenging. Feline Digestive Support provides digestive enzymes especially balanced for the cat along with billions of helpful intestinal bacteria (probiotics) to help the senior cat maintain gut integrity and the ability to remain healthier and younger at heart.

The Rationale for a Raw Cat Food Diet

The Rationale for a Raw Cat Food Diet

A raw diet recreates the way our pet’s ancestors ate in the wild for thousands of years. Dogs and cats are carnivores. Left to their own devices, their typical daily diet, like that of their wild cousins, would involve catching and eating another animal. A raw diet returns our cats to this more natural form of nutrition, as if they had hunted and caught their perfect dinner.

  2. Amy

My cats love this stuff. I just sprinkle a little over their food every day.

  3. Rachel

I use this to transition my 3 cats to a new food or when I notice one may have loose stool and always seems to do the trick.

Our 15yr old kitty Lucy had IBD. A friend of mine had given me some of this product to try. Lucy was holding her own so I ordered another container. Unfortunately we had to let her go on April 4. I will be using this on some of my other pets as we have a houseful of seniors. Thank you for a good reasonable priced product!!!

My smallest cat has been puking for weeks now. Not sure why when we feed her sensitive skin and stomach dry food. So I read reviews on a lot of different probiotics for cats, because there are a lot of different brands out there, but this one stuck out to me because of a couple specific reviews on cats with belly issues. I was skeptical at first, so I didn’t use it every day. My cat puked 2 days in a row after eating her breakfast, so I decided to put her half scoop in her food 2x yesterday and this morning she’s eaten breakfast, even had a little left over she’s munching on now and hasn’t puked yet. So this product works fast, and she seems to be happy being able to eat again. Needless to say, I will be putting a half scoop in her food 1 meal every day from now on. Works great and I didn’t have to spend $40.

My 16+ year old cat has been having more frequent constipation issues. I did a ton of research to figure out how to help and I SO glad I found this because it is working like a charm! I take one scoop, this is the smallest scoop I’ve ever seen :), and I mix it into the gravy part of her Friskies Beef with gravy. The first time I did this in the morning, she smelled it and walked away which is the reason I gave the scent and flavor 4 stars. I figured it wouldn’t hurt to leave it out and low and behold, she ate it in the evening (by “ate” I mean just the gravy which is what she does under normal circumstances). So, I mix it in the morning and I am hypothesizing this-it marinates in the gravy and is then palatable.

  7. Bethany

We got this for our foster kitty she loves the taste we mix it into her bone broth. Good price n fast shipping.

  8. Rachel

Worked well for three cats. I use this to transition my 3 cats to a new food or when I notice one may have loose stool and always seems to do the trick.

  9. Marvita

Help keeping my cat healthy. This product is perfect for my feline Montigo who has digestive problems. He is able to stay healthy by adding this vitamin to his food

  10. Misty

I’ve tried many probiotics. This seems to help the most with diarrhea and is affordable.

  11. Beowulf

The babies love it…no more up chucking food. First time I mixed with their wet food they sniffed it & walked away. I left the bowls on their mats and they decided in a few minutes to return and give it a try now they eat all their food and ask for more. Great product

  12. KWM

I bought this and a liquid probiotic to help a very sick feral kitten that I rescued. I think it helped, but really have no way to establish/verify a cause >> effect outcome. I could tell he really liked the flavor and it did encourage him to eat what I put it on/in. I gave it (and the liquid product) to him for about 2 1/2 months, and along with forced syringe-feeding, vet help (antibiotics), and various milk and food supplements, the kitten did survive and is doing great now (4.5 months old now). I sure love him.

You know cats, they can be picky about so many things. Thankfully my little female cat really likes the taste of this so I can just sprinkle it on her dry food. She’s always had loose stools, not anything major and no accidents but I felt bad she always seemed to be straining and having problems. She also can’t seem to gain weight and the vet ran a bunch of tests and said it might just be an absorption issue. I don’t know if she’s gained any weight yet, but her poops are much better and again, at least she likes the taste and will eat it.

  14. Nancy

I was told to give my cat a probiotic because of a medication he is taking. He either doesn’t notice this in his wet food or he likes it

  15. JLW

I adopted a stray cat that had many infections and was on antibiotics for 6+ weeks. That caused some issues with soft stool and gas. After a week of this probiotic, his issues cleared up. I mixed it with his wet cat food and he didn’t even seem to notice it.

  16. George

I like these pre/probiotic combos… Everything your pet needs. I mix this with wet food as this product is flavored. My cats cannot detect this when mixed in wet food. I use a “tasteless” probiotic to sprinkle on their kibble. It’s bacteria, so you don’t need to use much.

  17. Erin

This is great! I highly recommend this product. My 10-year-old cat would vomit constantly. Nothing is critically wrong with him, he would just vomit after eating if he ate too fast or too much. I changed his food and limited his food intake, to prevent the vomiting, but then he started losing weight. I have another cat, so his hasty consumption may be because of competition when eating, so I’d separate them during feeding time, but alas, he’d still get sick afterwards, even if he ate in private. I looked into a lot of remedies and a probiotic was an option, so I decided to try this one because of the ratings. This product is the only thing that got him to stop vomiting altogether. It takes about a week of use to take effect, but I’m so impressed and so glad he stopped vomiting and he seems to be maintaining his weight. Highly recommend!

This Digestive Support Nutrition added to powdered Nutro Dry Cat food and KMR saved my sick kitten. The fast, fast shipping was also a factor too and greatly appreciated. The medicine from the vet was killing the virus but the kitten too. With these nutritional additives it helped enough for the kittens to pull through. I will always keep these products on hand.

  19. Janet

Our cats haven’t exhibited any digestive problems yet as they are only a year old, but we have had cats in the past that did. We are trying to get ahead of it this time by using this product as it contains probiotics and digestive enzymes. An added bonus is that they think it tastes great. I don’t have to worry about trying to convince them to take it!

  20. David H

Three long-hair cats are producing fewer hairballs since we’ve started adding this to their wet food twice a day. And our cat with a tendency toward intestinal issues (clostridium bacterial infections) has had fewer incidences after a couple months of consistent use–definitely preferable to prevent the problem than deal with recurring expensive vet visits and antibiotics.

  21. Margret

`My older cat started urinating around the house. She had never done this before so I took her to the vet. He said she was having digestive problems and possibly some liver issues. So we changed her to all wet food and based on his recommendation also started giving her supplements with probiotics and digestive enzymes. Dr. Bill’s products were recommended to me so I went online and purchased a couple, including the Digestive Support product. They recommended mixing the powder into her food and she just ate it right down. After a few weeks her appetite increased again, she stopped urinating around the house, and stopped coughing up hairballs all the time. It’s been a couple months now since we started giving her the Dr. Bill’s supplements and we haven’t had any of the health problems and her energy has returned. She’s dashing all over the place again instead of pretty much sleeping all the time. I have recommended Dr. Bill’s products to my children and friends and they have seen dramatic results with their pets as well.

  22. Dan

Digestive Support is the third supplement from Dr. Bill’s that we’ve tried. We have a 17 year old cat who was really slowing down and starting to have issues, like peeing on the carpets which she had never done before. The vet said she was starting to have liver and digestive problems and suggested that we give her only wet food and find some supplements to strengthen her body. After looking at stores and on the internet we found Dr. Bill’s products. His articles and videos are amazing and really gave us confidence to try his products, which have a lot more ingredients than most supplements. We started with the general Fitness and Health product and after just a couple weeks saw a huge difference in her behavior and energy level. After six weeks she was acting like a kitten again, chasing anything that moved, running through the house like a little banshee. It was so wonderful to see her feeling so good again. So then we tried the Optimum Skin and Coat, because her beautiful tortoise shell coat was so dull and matted. After several weeks her coat was shiny and glowing again, no more matting, no more hairballs coughed up on the floor every couple days. So we decided to add one more powder to mix into her food every day, the Digestive Support. After a couple weeks with Digestive Support mixed in her appetite has gone way up. She’s eating a can and a half of food every day now and starting to feel less like the skin and bones she had gotten down to before we started with the Dr. Bill’s supplements. And she has stopped peeing around the house, so clearly something inside is a lot healthier again. We are so grateful to have discovered these products and recommend them to everyone.

  23. Andrea

I’ve been giving Lily Dr. Bill’s Digestive Support for about 4 months now and it has helped her SOOOOO much! We had been battling her digestive issues off and on for a few years now (vomiting, diarrhea, and skin reactions to food) resulting in some pretty significant vet bills. What we learned was that she was not processing her food properly. Through adjusting her diet and supplementing with Dr. Bill’s probiotics and enzymes, her health has taken a 180 degree turn. She’s feeling so good! She’s so much healthier and happier, and honestly even nicer. I think having digestive issues was just making her cranky a lot of the time. And she loves the taste of Dr. Bill’s powder, so that makes it super easy to give to her regularly. We love Dr. Bill’s!
