Health Concerns

The basis for a decline in cognitive function in our aging dogs and cats can be biological and/or nutritional. Aging is associated with a decreased absorption of nutrients needed to nourish the brain. Aging also brings an increase in oxidative stress due to free radical attacks that damage the protein, lipid and nucleotide structures of the brain.

Have you noticed your dog seeming forgetful or having accidents in the house? Are they showing a lack of interest in the things they used to get excited about (including you!)?

At birth, puppies and kittens only have partially functioning immune systems, which makes them more vulnerable to diseases as they are unable to protect themselves. To help protect them from dangerous diseases, maternal immunity is bestowed on the puppy or kitten in its mother’s “first milk”.

Before work, my Chocolate Lab, Kayla, and I used to take a walk and play fetch every morning in the heavily wooded area around our home. One morning in April 2013, we were out for our walk and playing fetch when, suddenly, I heard the most horrific sound from her off in the distance.

A raw diet recreates the way our pet’s ancestors ate in the wild for thousands of years. Dogs and cats are carnivores. Left to their own devices, their typical daily diet, like that of their wild cousins, would involve catching and eating another animal. A raw diet returns our cats to this more natural form of nutrition, as if they had hunted and caught their perfect dinner.

According to records, the Golden Retriever was first bred around 1890 in Inverness-Shire, Scotland by Dudley Marjoribanks - Lord Tweedmouth. Who could have known that crossing the Flat-Coated Retriever with Tweed Water Spaniels, Blood Hounds, and Irish Setters would turn into one of today’s most popular and revered breeds?

The Bulldog had its origin in the British Isles and was a descendant of the Asiatic mastiff. The name "bull-dog" was originally provided because of the breed's use in bull baiting. Back then, Bulldogs were aggressive, ferocious and courageous animals having the power to attack a grown bull from the underside, a cruel sport that was finally banned in the 19th century.
