Rutin

The flavonoid rutin is a flavonol glycoside comprised of the flavonol quercetin and the disaccharide rutinose. Rutin has antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-carcinogenic, antithrombotic, cytoprotective and vasoprotective activities. Most of rutin’s activities can be related to its ability to scavenge superoxide radicals and chelate ferrous cations, which generate reactive oxygen species. Rutin may also help maintain levels of the biological antioxidant reduced glutathione.
